First-ever Red Cross blood drives give fairgoers the opportunity to help save a life

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Aug. 22, 2007) – The American Red Cross will host blood drives on four days of the Minnesota State Fair, accepting blood donations from generous individuals who want to help patients at more than 100 area hospitals, as well as hospitals and patients throughout the country. 

Everyone who presents to donate blood will receive a ticket for a free Midway Ride and a personal fan to help keep cool while enjoying the Fair.

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day
Saturday, August 25
Sunday, August 26                      
Sunday, September 2
Monday, September 3 (Labor Day)

WHERE:  Underwood Street, across from the Haunted House (Gate 7) 

HOW: Appointments are encouraged, but not required. To schedule an appointment call 1.800.GIVE.LIFE or go online to givebloodgivelife.org. A blood donor card or driver’s license is required at check-in. Donors must be at least 17 years old  and must weigh at least 110 pounds. All blood types are needed – especially type O and RH negative blood types.

The St. Paul, Minnesota-based North Central Region supplies blood products and specialized laboratory services to more than 100 hospitals in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and eastern South Dakota. In a lifesaving partnership with approximately 127,000 volunteer blood donors, 4,000 volunteer blood drive coordinators and 630 staff members, the North Central Region organizes nearly 5,000 blood drives in an effort to collect approximately 240,000 pints of blood each year for patients in need.
